The GEOLOGICAL SURVEY OF IRELAND (GSI), founded in 1845, is the National Earth Science Agency. It is responsible for providing geological advice and information, and for the acquisition of data for this purpose. GSI produces a range of products including maps, reports and databases and acts as a knowledge centre and project partner in all aspects of Irish geology.
GSI is a division of the Department of Communications, Marine & Natural Resources (DCMNR) and has about 60 multidisciplinary staff.
This website is intended to show the range of the GSI's work, activities and products.
Online Services
The following links are available for use with OCG compliant applications (click for details). These links will develop over time based on customer feedback, so if you have a suggestion or recommendation on what you would like to see here, please email.
See the application's Help facility on how to use the link below. If you are using ArcMap for instance, add GIS Server using the Add WMS Server option and post the URL below into the dialog.

The following URL (contained in the picture link) is editable and makes a dynamic request based on your parameters. Click the link and it will open a browser window and present a map. Copy the URL and edit the parameters (in notepad or similar) you can request different extents, layers and output format. It takes approx 50 seconds so please be patient
