Welcome to the Exploration and Mining Divisions Spatial Data Pages The Exploration and Mining Division (EMD) of the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources (DCMNR) is charged with the promotion, regulation and policy development of mineral exploration and extraction.
Since 2001, EMD has progressively made much of its non-confidential spatial data publicly available as part of the Division’s ‘Data Release Programme.’ This data, together with geographic information held by other line divisions in DCMNR (GSI, PAD ), is now accessible through the Department’s new ‘Public Data Viewer’. Customers can use this tool to visualize and interactively query a wealth of exploration and mining information, without the need for specialist hardware, software or training. To launch the Public Data Viewer and view EMD’s geospatial datasets, please click on one of the relevant links below.
Public Data Map Viewers
| For ease of use, EMD’s geospatial datasets have been grouped into the following five map services; (1) Simple, (2) Location and Permit Status, (3) Mining, (4) Exploration and (5) Environmental. |
| Simple Map Viewer |
|
The Simple map service enables users to display and interact with EMD’s basic datasets via a simple, intuitive geographic information system (GIS) interface. It is recommended that those users unfamiliar with GIS launch this viewer (click on the adjacent icon) and then select Help for further information on using the Viewer.

|
|
The other four map services are considerably richer in terms of the geospatial data accessible and GIS functionality. It is recommended that advanced users utilise these map services for all their GIS requirements. |

Online ServicesThe following links are available for use with OCG compliant applications (click for details). These links will develop over time based on customer feedback, so if you have a suggestion or recommendation of what you would like to see hele please mail. See your application help on how to use the link below. If your using for instance ArcMap, add GIS Server using the Add WMS Server option and post the url below into the dialog. http://spatial.dcenr.gov.ie/wmsconnector/com.esri.wms.Esrimap?Servicename=EMD_Simple_WGS84
The following url (contained in the picture link) is editable and makes a dynamic request based on your parameters, click the link and it will open a browser window and present a map, if you then copy the url and edit the parameters ( in notepad or similar) you can request different extents, layers and format of output.
For the best use of WMS and WFS services please consult your GIS product documentation or simply search the internet for appropriate guidance. |
