Pat the Cope Welcomes Resolution to Irish Ferries Dispute

Dublin, 14th December 2005

Marine Minister, Pat the Cope Gallagher T.D., today welcomed the outcome of the talks between Irish Ferries and the Unions: SIPTU and the Seamen’s Union of Ireland.

The Marine Minister congratulated all the parties on reaching a much sought after agreement.

Speaking tonight, Minister Gallagher welcomed the action of the parties in pulling back from the brink and for having taken time to resolve their differences, with the able assistance of the Labour Relations Commission.

“The Irish public and our importers and exporters, who have supported Irish Ferries and its staff over so many years, deserved to have their needs taken into account, particularly at this, the busiest shopping season in the year and I am delighted that the ferry routes between Ireland, the UK and France are now open again,” said Pat the Cope.
