Satellite Broadband Survey

Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Noel Dempsey T.D., Launches Nationwide Satellite Broadband Survey

  16th December 2004

The Minister for Communications, Marine and Natural Resources, Noel Dempsey T.D., today formally launched the South West Regional Authoritys nationwide survey of satellite broadband users. The SWRA, which is the statutory body responsible for the social and economic sustainability of the South West Region, is conducting a nationwide survey that will assess Irish perceptions and attitudes to the use of satellite technology by broadband customers.

All satellite broadband users are being asked to complete the questionnaire, giving information on location, the size of the company or organisation, levels of usage, costs, satisfaction rating and so on. SWRA are working closely with the Department of Communications, Marine and Natural Resources and the National Microelectronics Applications Centre on research into the future of satellite broadband and other innovative technologies. As an incentive to completing the questionnaire, all respondents will be entered in a draw for a substantial prize.

Minister Dempsey welcomes the initiative, and encourages all satellite broadband users to participate in the survey. The results of the survey will help to pinpoint the role of satellite technology in the overall plan for broadband rollout.
