Statement

Meeting of 23 April between Minister Fahey, Minister O’Donoghue, Deputy Healy Rae, Officials of the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources and the Killarney Valley Angling Federation

Wednesday, 24 April 2002
The Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources is in agreement to leases of 7 years being granted by the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands, in respect of the Laune and Flesk fisheries, to the Laune Salmon and Trout Anglers Association and Lough Leine Anglers Club.

The parties at this meeting agreed that it is desirable that the fisheries be developed in the interest of anglers primarily, the tourist industry, the farming community (in view of their concern that no land be lost as a result of this process) and the economy generally.

It was also agreed that the parties would meet under the chairmanship of Pat Lynch, to discuss how this latter objective might be best pursued.

ENDS.
