Public Consultation

Following publication of the draft Environmental Report for Slyne, Erris & Donegal Basins (IOSEA 1) in hardcopy and on this website on 13 April 2006, the commencement of a 4 week public consultation process, as provided for under SI 435 of 2004, was announced in the following local and regional newspapers:

· The Irish Independent
· The Connaught Tribune
· The Sligo Champion
· Donegal Democrat
. Mayo News
. Foinse

Hardcopies of the draft Environmental Report were made available to the public for review in the county libraries of Galway, Mayo, Sligo and Donegal and feedback was sought thereafter until mid-May, through direct consultation with relevant authorities, and through public feedback.

Furthermore, as provided for under Article 13 (2)a and (2)b in SI 435 of 2004, open public regional consultation workshops were held on 20 April 2006 in the Radisson Hotel, Rosse Point, Sligo, and on 21 April 2006 in the Harbour Hotel, New Docks, Galway.

During these workshops the public were given the opportunity to review the draft Environmental Report, and to consult available experts. Submissions received following the public consultation process for IOSEA 1, which has now finished, have been collated and embodied into the Final Environmental Report. This report was published on 19 June 2006, and includes appropriate operational guidelines or restrictions, which may need to be implemented by future successful applicants of Frontier Exploration Licences in the Slyne, Erris and Donegal Basins
