The primary legislation governing Inland Fisheries is the Fisheries Consolidation Act 1959 (No. 14 of 1959). In the intervening years this Act has been amended on a number of occasions. In 2010 the Inland Fisheries Act 2010 (No 10 of 2010) established Inland Fisheries Ireland (IFI). IFI replaced the Central and 7 Regional Fisheries Boards. Their principal role is the protection and conservation of the State’s inland fisheries resource. IFI is also required to promote, support, facilitate and advise the Minister on the conservation, protection, management, marketing, development and improvement of the inland fisheries resource.
You can access all primary legislation on the Houses of the Oireachtas

A range of secondary legislation, by way of Statutory Instruments and Bye-laws, are also in place for the effective regulation of the fishery.
Statutory instruments and chronological tables of the statutes can be accessed on the Irish Statute Book
website.
