Dear
Mr Ahern TD, Minister for Communications
My
name is C. Bower. I am an ordained minister leading a Religious
Order called 'the Heart of St Patrick'. As an all Irish apostolate we seek
to serve fellow country men and women on both sides of the border, regardless
of denominational attachment.
In
writing to yourself I wish to express to you the breadth of appeal that would
be attracted to a specifically Christian radio station. In my ministry we often
meet people who would benefit from a station that would seek to encourage
personal spirituality. So many people are abandoning corporate worship in the
light of rapid materialism and the sad legacy of abuse scandals. The State has
the opportunity to serve its' citizens by granting a license to a Station that
will seek to promote Trinitarian Spirituality, consistent with values
enshrined in our Constitution.
I can
also see specific benefits to cross-border cooperation and awareness, if a
transmitter was situated near to Northern Ireland. One of the
significant power bases in the North is Evangelical Protestantism. An all
Irish Christian Radio Station would most assuredly inform and temper such a
power base whilst serving the most excellent call to personal faith raised
recently by our former Archbishop of Armagh, Cahal Daly. I
have long been an advocate of such initiatives in the wake of the Good Friday
Agreement.
I
therefore request that licensing of Christian radio become available as
soon as possible. I would be delighted to assist further in this debate. My
home phone number is…. Though I live in the North I often travel around the
Counties visiting parishes etc.
With
thanks and my prayers
Rev C.
