Consultation - radio: What
provision had been made for the estabilsahment of Radio stations in our own language? It is clear to me that there
exists a bias toward the establishment of radio stations for people that want
to listen the national language in their daily lives. Gaeltacht ares have been
sucessful in obtaining a broadcasting service in their area to cater for their
needs but what about the people that use the language daily bring up their
children through IRISH and live outside the Gaeltact and have NO access to a
local radio in their area where they can participate locally in community
affairs IT is also clear that of the many stations established by the BCI only
one is licenced to broadcast in IRISH that being Raidio na Life for the Dublin
area.Whith the growing number of Gaelscoileanna growing throught the country it
is beyond reason as to WHY only one station in Dublin has been licenced to
promote the language. IN the Cork area alone there are over 4000 children being
educated through Irish yet there is NO participation in Radio for them.Surely
this policy of broadcasting MUST be looked at to be more inclusive for IRISH
speakers. Ta suil agam go mbeidh athrú mor ann.
