Working and Living Publications in a publisher of specialist business books, including Working and Living in Ireland, Go Contracting in Ireland, eBusiness in Ireland and the FUNdamental Guide to Learning.
Business Case for eCommerce Infrastructure Project
The nature of its publications means that many of the company’s readers and customers are located around the world and orders from China, the USA, India and Europe are frequent. Many readers asked first to be able to purchase the books on-line, then to be able to purchase them in soft copy and finally corporate customers such as Microsoft requested Working and Living in Ireland as Internet content.
eBusiness Solution
Working and Living Publications did not find an existing publishing product that exactly matched its requirements, so it asked System Dynamics to customise its publishing product, normally used for Intranets, and to eCommerce enable it. Customers can now purchase on-line and select paper or electronic format.
Working and Living Publications has been selling books in soft copy since Spring 2000 and forecasts that it will be able to switch at least some of its publications to electronic format only within two years. eBusiness in Ireland, for example, will be available as an eBook before it is available in paper format. The FUNdamental Guide to Learning, which contains almost 200 educational and fun activities for children will also be available in soft copy and it will be possible for customers to select which of the activities they want, e.g. all the activities associated with maths, spelling, reading or writing.
The response from corporate clients for Working and Living Publications’ publications has been excellent and a number of companies, including Microsoft and Delphi, have signed contracts for the provision of Working and Living in Ireland for their recruitment websites.
The company is also in discussions with other, larger publishers with a view to becoming an outsource partner for their electronic publishing requirements.
