Halcyon Systems is a software development company, providing software services to manufacturing companies in Ireland and internationally.
Business Case for eCommerce Infrastructure Project
Glanbia Meats - Pork Products Division (Ireland) operates facilities in Rooskey, Edenderry, Clara and Roscrea. It has a throughput of approximately 1.5 million pigs per annum. Fifty-five per cent of output is exported to retail and further processing customers in the UK, other EU countries, Russia and Asia. Glanbia is the largest suppliers of fresh pork products to Irish retailers.
Glanbia processes meat supplied by some 500 pig farmers in Ireland. The company was seeking a means of presenting key sales information over the web to its suppliers. It sought to provide its suppliers with details of their deliveries and account status as well as giving them the means to access pricing information and to make account enquiries.
eBusiness Solution
Halcyon deployed ‘Piglink’, an extranet for Glanbia’s suppliers. The solution integrated Glanbia’s existing pig processing system into the web system architecture. Halcyon employed its "Easy eCommerce" tool to dynamically build the user interface and to provide Glanbia business managers with the ability to easily maintain and update the site.
The completed system, Piglink, provides personalised information relevant to each supplier, accessed confidentially through a secure extranet. The on-line services now available to Glanbia suppliers are:
- On-line account statement
- Individual Sales Certificates
- Sales Reporting per period
- Account Inquiries
- Graphical Representation and Analysis of Sales Figures
- Key Pricing Information
- Communications between Glanbia and suppliers; individually, by plant or in groups
- On-line newsletters
- Farm Services - repository of farm business information and support bodies.

Who will benefit from this eCommerce Infrastructure Development?
Piglink is written in soft code, so it is very straightforward for suppliers to update any part of their records that they own, such as contact details.
Piglink has been very positively received by the pork suppliers in Glanbia’s initial pilot and its application will be extended.
Halycon is currently in discussions with other large food processing companies with a view to implementing a customised version of the product.
