Main Responsibilities

• The Peat Division represents the interests of the shareholder (i.e. the Government), where relevant, in relation to the statutory body Bord na Móna plc, by;
  
• Administration of the Turf Development Acts,
  
• Drafting of regulations prescribed in the Turf Development Acts,
  
• Monitoring and overseeing the operations of BnM, including its financial and corporate affairs,
  
• Shareholder consideration of proposals by Bord Na Móna plc to enter into joint ventures or to establish or acquire subsidiary companies,
  
• Corporate Governance issues (including financial issues, staff matters, pay and pensions, subsidiaries)
  
• Administering the appointment of Chairpersons and members of the Board of the company.

Strategic Objectives

• To ensure effective corporate governance of the energy state bodies so as to protect the shareholder interest and contribute to national economic development.
• To ensure that the Energy Sector meets the environmental obligations associated with its energy production and use, and contributes towards sustainable development.
