Electricity Regulation Act 1999 (Eligible Customer) (Consumption of Electricity) Order 2003

This Order provides for an increase in the level of electricity market opening from 40% currently to some 56% with effect from 19 February 2004. This will mean that customers whose annual electricity consumption at a single premises is estimated and calculated to be or likely to be greater than 0.1 Giga Watt hour, will be eligible to source their electricity from any independent licensed supplier. As a result of this increase, an additional 12,000 or so of the larger industrial and commercial customers will be free to shop around for their electricity supply.

Furthermore, the Order provides, to all intents and purposes, for full opening of the electricity market on 19 February 2005. From this date forward, every single customer will be free to choose their electricity supplier.
