Consultation on Energy Demand Reduction Target (EDRT) Programme
A consultation exercise on the Energy Demand Reduction Target was carried out by DCENR in 2009. The submissions received from interested parties can be accessed at EDRT Submissions.
A further consultation phase on the design of the programme, including eligible measures, funding, allocation of savings targets and targeted sectors, has been superseded by the Retrofit Programme. Please see the attached link Retrofit Programme.

The Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources is seeking the views of interested parties on the design and implementation of a programme – the Energy Demand Reduction Target (EDRT) – which would involve the promotion of energy end-use efficiency and energy services by energy distributors, distribution system operators and/or retail energy sales companies.
The energy services undertaken as part of such programmes typically include:
- Installing energy efficiency measures (e.g. attic or cavity wall insulation) for households
- Promoting energy efficient appliances and equipment to households and businesses, through discounts, rebates, special offers or other incentives
- Promoting and providing energy audits to businesses
The EDRT programme has the potential to significantly reduce energy costs and related greenhouse gas emissions whilst creating employment and developing a market for energy services in Ireland.
The consulation paper is available at EDRT.
