The Commission for Energy Regulation (CER) is the independent body responsible for overseeing the liberalisation of Ireland's energy sector.

EirGrid Plc. will shortly take over the operation of Ireland's electricity transmission system from ESB National Grid (ESBNG), thereby facilitating the entry of independent power producers and suppliers to the market who can then participate in meeting the growing demand for electricity in Ireland.
