Buswells Hotel, 26 October 2006
Minister Noel Dempsey's address at the Digital Perception Limited (DPL) Launch

Thank you for the invitation to this launch.

It is always a pleasure to attend a launch where we see Irish companies at the cutting edge of technology delivering new innovative solutions to the security marketplace.

I understand Digital Perception Limited has completed a €2m investment in technology, which will allow security footage to be recorded remotely using broadband technology supplied by their partner Irish Broadband.

This project is a good example, where combining a traditional close circuit television signal with broadband transmission services can generate a real added value business application. This service allows security video to be stored remotely and safely away from intruders reach. The use of broadband also allows remote monitoring from any internet location in the world.

The Irish economy is constantly changing. There is a clear need to move business up the value added chain, to develop new innovative services and markets and to bring them to market in a timely and competitive manner. If Irish business is to continue to grow we need to adopt new technologies and to bring them together in ways that have not been done before and to market them effectively.

Its great to see an indigenous Irish company design, develop and market a unique product and service to supply not only Irish consumers but potentially the worldwide business community. I know Enterprise Ireland are working with Digital Perception Ltd in entering the international market. Services like this complement the government objective of mass broadband penetration for businesses over the next few years.

Broadband is a key element and method for the delivery of new innovative services. The use of ICT is seen as the way to create new efficiencies that will increase competitiveness. Irish business by its geographic location and size needs to engage and adapt their businesses to capitalise on the opportunities that the use of broadband creates.

I would like to congratulate Digital Perception Limited and Irish broadband for coming together, to build a solution that is greater that the sum of their individual businesses. It is partnerships such as these, that will allow niche Irish companies to capture their markets and to succeed in a more competitive world. Your leadership should be an example to other Irish companies.

Finally, I would like to wish your enterprise every success and I look forward to reading about your success in the business pages of the newspapers over the coming years.

Thank you.
