Secretary General

Mr Aidan Dunning commenced duty as Secretary General of the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources in September 2007.

Prior to his appointment as Secretary General, Mr Dunning served as an Assistant Secretary in the Department of Finance dealing with public expenditure policy notably in the areas of Transport and Environment. Prior to that, he worked as Assistant Secretary in the Department of Finance on European matters with particular responsibility for the Structural and Cohesion Funds. He also coordinated the drafting at official level of the National Development Plans 2000–2006 and 2007-2013. He worked in the Department of the Taoiseach in the mid 1990s on European Policy and was centrally involved in that role in the 1996 Irish Presidency.

Mr Dunning is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin in Economics and Politics.
