Secretary General

Mr Aidan Dunning commenced duty as Secretary General of the Department of Communications, Energy & Natural Resources in September 2007.

Prior to his appointment to Secretary General, Mr Dunning served as an Assistant Secretary in the Department of Finance. He has spent the bulk of his career in that Department, most recently dealing with public expenditure policy notably in the areas of Transport and Environment. He also coordinated the drafting at official level of the National Development Plan 2007-2013. He worked in the Department of the Taoiseach in the mid 1990s on European Policy and was closely involved in the 1996 Irish Presidency.

Mr Dunning holds a degree (hons) in Economics and Politics from Trinity College Dublin.
