Special and Commemorative Stamp Programmes

The proposals for An Post’s annual stamp programme arise from recommendations made by a specific independent committee, the Philatelic Advisory Committee, which meets twice yearly. All suggestions are vetted by this Committee, which subsequently recommends to Government the subjects for inclusion in the Company’s Stamp Programmes.

The initial process consists of a major trawl for suggestions from many organisations, the general public and from all Government Departments. The Stamp Programmes are prepared well in advance of the year of issue (usually two to three years), to facilitate An Post in undertaking preparatory and planning work.

An Post receives a huge volume of suggestions from many different sources for its annual Stamp Programmes and all proposals received are considered by the Philatelic Advisory Committee. The suggestions are shortlisted and then a Programme is agreed by the Committee. The annual Stamp Programme is then forwarded to the Department of Communications Marine and Natural Resources and accordingly submitted for Government approval.
