Privacy

The Department respects the rights of its users and does not, as a general rule, collect personal information of any kind. Where a user voluntarily provides personal information in response to a questionnaire or survey the data will be used for research or analysis purposes only.

For general web browsing no personal information is revealed to us, although certain statistical information is available to us via our internet service provider. This information may include:

  • The logical address of the server you are using
  • The top level domain name from which you access the Internet (for example, .ie, com, .org etc.
  • The type of browser you are using.
  • The date and time you access our site
  • The Internet address used to link to our site

Some of the above information is used to create summary statistics which allow us to assess the number of visitors to our site, identify what pages are accessed most frequently and generally, help us to make our site more user friendly.

Data Protection

The Data Protection Acts 1988 and 2003 confer rights on individuals in regard to the privacy of their personal data as well as responsibilities on those persons holding and processing such data.

DCMNR is subject to both of these Acts. The Data Protection Acts set out the rights of individuals and also the responsibilities of those, including DCMNR, who hold the data. DCMNR holds data on all users who use this site where it is submitted. This data can be either personal data or non-personal data. Personal data for Data Protection purposes refers to data of a living individual. This data can be held on computers or in manual files. The person in DCMNR with responsibility for meeting our obligations under the Acts is called the Data Controller.

Making a Data Protection Access Request to DCMNR

You can make a data protection access request in writing to the Web Master at the address shown below or by e-mailing webmaster@dcmnr.gov.ie. Your request should be as specific as is possible to enable us to identify where the particular data is held. A response to your access request will issue to you as soon as is possible.

There are certain exemptions contained in the Data Protection Acts that restrict the right of access and allow for a refusal of a request. An appeal against a refusal can be made direct to the Data Protection Commissioner.
